Every business should have a podcast. Why? Because everybody’s doing it!

Okay, so I know that sounds like the opposite of what we would tell any teenager. Don’t just do something because your friends are. But, in this case, following the crowd is actually in our best interest!

The Three P’s: Podcasting is Portable and Personal

Podcasting has seen a tremendous surge in popularity, specifically in the last few years. The reason for this popularity is that podcasts offer businesses a more thorough way to tell their stories while offering listeners a more desired way of consuming those stories. We live in a world defined by binge culture, mass consumption, and constant stimulation. This “always plugged in” lifestyle is not going away. Therefore, in order to break through all of the noise, you have to reach the ears of your community in the most convenient way.

Portability is a huge plus when it comes to breaking through the noise. Since podcasts are audio-only and can be streamed right from a smart device, they seamlessly fit into anyone’s day. Going for a run? Play a podcast. Getting in the car? Play a podcast. Cooking dinner? Play a podcast. Without a visual component, podcasts can be streamed wherever and whenever, bringing conversation, education, and entertainment straight from one party to another without barrier.

Personal. Now, this is key. Podcasts have revolutionized our ability to personalize our consumption. We get to choose what we listen to when we listen to it, and how long we want to listen to it. We can seek out the exact topics that are most important to us, to queue up in our feed. Not only is it a personal experience for the listener, but it is also personal for the producer. Podcasts give us a platform to have candid conversations about topics that matter to us. We don’t need permission, or a specific air date and time. Our content goes out when we want it to!

You read that right. The new standard. Podcasts are becoming synonymous with businesses the same way that websites are. Everyone has a website, there is simply no way for a business to thrive without one. Podcasts are going down that exact same road. Just like internet visibility became a MUST for all businesses, podcasts are following suit. It is not just a smart and useful tool, it is a hot commodity, it is the trend, it is the medium of NOW.
